Mission 1: 2002 June 22.

Team members Hank Olson (Intel), Derek Amus (Psi), and Mike Jones (Combat) are called to New York for a mission at the Empire State Building (ESB).

Mission Briefing.

Repairs and excavation in the sub-basement of the ESB began over a month ago. Approximately 3 weeks ago, four exterminators who were sent in for pest control down there went missing. Two weeks later, the CEO of a company in the building went missing. Reports of "odd occurances" in elevator 4. The mission: enter the building, find out what's going on. If some creature is abducting / killing people, find it and kill it.

Mission Parameters.

Sponsoring department: Combat. On-site mission team: Fox 2 (Olson), 3 (Jones), 4 (Amus). Home base: Fox 8 (control), Mike 2 (intel). Location: Empire State Building. Timeframe for operations: 0200 - 0400 hours.

Debriefing.

Team dropped from stealth chopper on roof at 0200. Entered premises of missing CEO's corporation, examined files, email, etc. Fox 2 installed Gamma-5 snooping software. Preliminary analysis showed some familial connection between CEO and the company hired for excavations. Also high level of monetary transfers from CEO to family members.

Team descended to sub-basement. Excavations revealed a secret subterranean tunnel running beneath the city, apparently centuries old, and large. Fox 4 got a precog-danger warning shortly before the team heard something like many whispering voices.

Roughly 100m from the opening in the ceiling of the tunnel the team found a cocoon hangning from the ceiling. The CEO's dessicated corpse was inside. Cocoon's composition appeared to be some fiberglass-like substance, and brittle. Victim had gaping wound in forehead, and was hanging upside-down. Victim and cocoon bagged for return for analysis (total weight only roughly 30 pounds).

Fox 4 got another feeling of danger returning to the hole, and the whispering sounds were heard again. Fox 4 used his clairvoyant ability to scout the excavation room, but whatever the source of the sounds was apparently sensed this and fled up into the building, buckling two fire doors in the stairwell. The team was unable to locate the creature afterwards, despite the closed environment of the basement level.

0356, and the team ascended via elevator 4 to the roof. The creature was heard again on the way up, either in or very near the elevator shaft. 0400: extraction.
