Where I work
I work as a "Physics Commissioning Specialist" for
TomoTherapy,
a great company that makes devices to treat cancer with radiation
therapy. I'm one of the many folks who works to ensure that our
machines deliver the proper dose before they leave our facility.
It's a great company, and my job is fun and challenging.
Just for Fun
Outside of work, my main interests are running (with and without my
lab mix, Sasha), reading (mostly mysteries and science fiction),
my family (Brian and Corrinne), & traveling.
I maintain a fairly comprehensive
list of races in the Madison area... if you want me to add your race,
just send me an email!
Teaching
I used to teach Physics & Astronomy at the college level. I was on the
faculty at the University of Iowa for two years, then Beloit College for
seven. I taught everything from first-year writing through graduate-level
astrophysics during this time. At this point, I don't anticipate teaching
again, but I still find the resources I compiled during that time to be
useful occasionally, so if you want to know about some of the classes I have
taught, just look in this section.
Astronomy
I study gas in galaxies, galaxy interactions, and starburst galaxies.
Of particular interest to me are "polar-ring galaxies", which are
otherwise normal disk galaxies with a ring of material in orbit
perpendicular to the plane of the galaxy's central disk.
