THE DOMAIN’S HISTORY

An old address. A new chapter.

The web remembers. Here are a few documented moments from Imagiware’s past, and how they connect to the site you see today.

These records describe earlier versions of the domain. Today’s Imagiware is a new, independent project. This timeline does not imply continuous ownership, business operations, or authorship of the original tools.

1996

A toolbox for the early web.

A November 1996 capture of the Imagiware homepage lists games, web design, hosting, and a “Tool Zone.” A capture of /RxHTML/ from the same day shows Doctor HTML v4, which accepted a URL and offered checks for document structure, images, links, and forms.

The archived tool credits Thomas Tongue and Imagiware.

Recorded in a W3C directory.

A historical W3C evaluation-tools directory lists Doctor HTML by Thomas Tongue and Imagiware, Inc. It describes syntax, link, spelling, and limited image-alt checks. This is a record of the earlier tool, not an endorsement of today’s site.

Looking beyond the browser.

The archived astronomy area includes moon phases, sky calendars, airmass, and planetary-position utilities. The page credits Brian Casey’s web interfaces around J. R. Thorstensen’s Skycalendar and Skycalc programs.

Those historical astronomy tools are not part of the current toolkit.

More practical web utilities.

An October 2000 tools directory lists Doctor HTML, Doctor HTML Pro, an HTML formatter, an HTML squisher, and astronomy tools. Practical utilities were a clear part of the domain’s identity.

A new collection, with a useful purpose.

The current project brings focused web checks to Imagiware: HTML Checkup, Redirect Inspector, and Meta & Social Preview. The long-linked /RxHTML/ address stays useful with a new source-checking implementation.

The current checker is not the original Doctor HTML software and is not presented as a continuation of the former company.

A note on the sources.

Archive captures establish what a page displayed on a particular date. They do not establish uninterrupted availability, ownership, or operation. Original authors retain credit for their work. Archive links may be slow or temporarily unavailable.
